Rebecca’s Letter

December 5, 2007

Dear Father Christmas,

I can’t believe your cancelling Christmas!  It is like you’re cancelling Jesus` birthday.  How could you do this?

Firstly, we don’t get too much for Christmas.  If you cancel Christmas, People will forget you because they are soooooooo MAD!!

Secondly, we do believe in you I mean you’re Santa. If you UN cancel Christmas we will never forget the real meaning of Christmas.

Yours sincerely

Rebecca Gale

P.S. I hope you change your mind.

Nadine’s Letter

December 5, 2007

Dear Father Christmas,

I hope you get this letter it is important! I am going to persuade you not to cancel Christmas. I do agree with you on some of your letter and some of it I don’t. I will tell you why.

Firstly, I don’t agree with you saying that you are going to cancel Christmas because of the children who have been calling you not real. The little children who have been good will be upset with you and if you do cancel Christmas then the people who have been calling you names will do it even more.

Secondly, would you be happy with people calling you names even more?  No I didn’t think so. I do agree with you saying that people are calling you not real so if I was in your boots I wouldn’t give them Christmas but the people who have been good I would give Christmas to.

Finally please please please give us Christmas don’t cancel it because it is a happy time and children love you eating all of the mince pies and Rudolf eating the carrots!

Please give us Christmas. Plus I deserve a little something but the rest of my presents you can give to someone else.

An URGENT message from Father Christmas…

December 4, 2007

Santa Claus

Dear B1,

I hope that you get this message.  I am sending it as an e-mail to Miss Leaman so that she can share it with you.  I needed to be sure that you get this message as quickly as possible because I don’t want you to get too excited and spend too much money before you hear the bad news.  Unfortunately, and I am very sad to have to tell you this, I have taken the decision to CANCEL Christmas this year.  In this letter I will outline the reasons why I have taken this decision and I hope that with consideration you will agree with my actions.

Firstly, I have decided to cancel Christmas because children all around the world have begun to say that I am not real -how ridiculous!  Who do they think makes all of the toys?  (Of course I have a little help from a few thousand elves.)  It is very upsetting to hear young, and I mean very young, children saying ‘There’s no such thing as Father Christmas.’  No longer do I get plates of mince pies and glasses of milk left out for me.  No longer do the reindeers get little carrot treats at every house.  If my work and my presents are not appreciated then why should I carry on doing the hardest job in the world!  Maybe someone else would like to visit EVERY house in the world in just one night.  Any volunteers?

Secondly, the children in some parts of the world are very greedy.  They have lots and lots of toys and want more and more.  Why can’t they be satisfied with what they have?  Most of them have far more than the children in the very poorest parts of the globe.  Children today are so greedy and selfish!

Finally, my main reason for cancelling Christmas is that people seem to have forgotten the true meaning of the celebration.  They are concerned with presents, food and what is on the television – hardly the important things in life.  Christmas has become a time where people only think about themselves.  The true meaning of Christmas is to remember the birth of Jesus.  However, it should also be a time to show your love and appreciation to the people who you care about.  It is about giving to other people and feeling happy about it.  I could go on and on but I think that I have made my point!

My decision is FINAL – unless you can convince me to think differently.

Enjoy December and spend what should be Christmas thinking about what I have said.  I hope that it will make a different so that in 2008 we can have a ‘Merry Christmas’.

Yours sincerely

Father Christmas

Make a 3D Tree

November 28, 2007

3D Christmas Card

You will need:

Coloured card for the tree top, trunk and container
Paint, sequins etc to decorate the tree
Glue
Paper or thin card to make the template

To make the template:

Cut a rectangle 12cm x 20cm out of piece of paper or thin card. Fold the card in half so it is now 6cm wide and draw three horizontal lines to divide the card into four equal sections as shown.
Use the the top three sections to form the main part of the tree. It may be easier to draw a line from the top to the side to give the basic triangular shape before drawing the branches. Then draw the trunk and container in the bottom section, the base of the container should measure about 2.5cm.

Cut out the whole shape and then open it out.

Using the template cut out two trees from your chosen coloured card. The trees can now be decorated and the trunk and container covered in your choice of coloured card or paper. Each cut out tree will need to be decorated on both sides.
Once the decoration is complete, cut one of the trees from the top 10cm down to the centre and the other 10cm from the bottom to the centre. The trees should now slide together to form a cross at the base. To hold the tops together a star could be added.
